Charitable IRA
The time is now! The Charitable IRA legislation passed!
Now is your opportunity to make a difference by taking advantage of this valuable incentive. On October 3, 2008, the charitable IRA legislation was signed into law. Don't miss this second-chance opportunity to make tax-free gifts from your IRA!
There's good news for individuals aged 70½ or older with individual retirement accounts. Thanks to the extended charitable IRA legislation, you can once again make outright gifts using IRA funds without tax complications.
If you are required to receive minimum distributions from your IRA and you do not need the money for personal use, consider using those funds as a charitable gift. While you cannot claim a charitable deduction for the IRA gifts, you will not pay income tax on the amount.
You may contribute funds if:
- You are 70½ or older
- Your IRA gifts total $100,000 or less per person each year in 2008 and 2009
- You transfer funds directly from an IRA directly to one or more public charities (This excludes gifts made to charitable trusts, donor advised funds and supporting organizations.)
- Only contributions made between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2009, are eligible for the enhanced tax benefit
- Distributions can only be made from traditional Individual Retirement Accounts or Roth IRAs. Charitable donations from 403(b) plans, 401(k) plans, pension plans, and other retirement plans are ineligible for the tax-free treatment
The Benefits:
- In most cases, the transfer counts toward your minimum required distributions.
- The gift generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so even those who do not itemize their tax returns receive the benefit.
- You may transfer up to $100,000 directly from your IRA in 2008 and 2009.
- The distributions may be in addition to or fulfill any charitable giving you have already planned

Making a major gift of $5,000 or more is truly an act of deliberative generosity and such acts are indeed blessings from God that help Guadalupe Radio Network change lives everyday – those searching for answers, those who have fallen away from the Church and come back, troubled teenagers, home-bound seniors – the list goes on. Planned Gifts
Simply stated, planned gifts are those that are made today to be received by Guadalupe Radio Network in the future. They are very similar to financial investments. Among them are wills, bequests, appreciated stocks, life insurance, etc. More often than not, planned gifts result in very specific tax benefits to the donor during his or her lifetime and result in the ability to make a more significant gift than might have otherwise been possible.
